Pixel Anime Faction (PAF) is an alliance community formed during the first day of r/place 2023 from several anime and anime-adjacent communities. Originally formed between Serial Experiments: Lain, Watamote, and a breakaway group from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, it would expand to encompass 10 communities by the end of r/place 2023. As of 2024, the current number is 11 communities since Ragna Crimson's join.
History
Pre-formation
u/Captain_VVA suggests on r/Haruhi to create something for r/place 2023. Unfortunately, most of the community refuses to help, except for u/HaruhiFan18 and u/Soramee
On the first day, the group tried to organize the iconic "の" logo right next to Touhou's Marisa art. However, despite their small successes, the artwork got invaded, and attempts to build on the right with the first expansion also failed to formulate.
Everyone gave up except u/HaruhiFan18, who requested help to Haruhiist58, who originally refused to help. A few hours later, Haruhiist would ask if they were still working on r/place, and after some organizing, both groups joined together within a Discord groupchat to make a Haruhi artwork. And only one hour later, u/Cancer_Cookie would join, bringing Lain and Watamote into the fold. With this expansion, the group agreed to create a Discord server with the name "Place Anime Faction".
PAF 2023 History
After the formation, Truthman would join the server, marking the assumption of Evangelion and Stu into the faction. Sometime later, Gurren Lagann would also join the alliance alongside Sewerslvt. With plans to place their artwork on the second expansion, they committed to getting the backing of a major faction, that faction being Hatsune Miku. This would also lead to the earliest recorded mural being made, featuring Evangelion, Stu, Lain, Jvne, Gurren Lagann and Haruhi, with Miku being thanked for their backing.
With the influx of communities, the mural would receive another redesign. This would be the last design before the Void Battle Tendency Arc.
Void Battle Tendency Arc
With r/place 2023's second expansion and the mural artwork done, PAF would eye on creating the mural right underneath Oshi No Ko. Despite their attempts, the influx of several communities eying for the same area made the building process significantly harder. Not only that, but The Void also went through the corridor on the left of Oshi No Ko, and flooded into the place that PAF was wishing to have. With little options, PAF decided to yield and let the Void finish their business before getting back to building.
Near to the end of the Void's occupation, PAF would get into contact with r/Osaker, and after some diplomacy, Azumanga Daioh would join to be the 10th community. This would also see the mural updating to a more recognizable design.
With the third expansion set, the Void would abandon the site, moving north. This would allow the perfect conditions for PAF to form.
First signs of PAF
Organized within a small pocket on the top middle, PAF would start to lay out a yellow grid pattern, allowing for easy and swift expansion into the territory. The first figure to form would be Lain, with Gurren Lagann following after. With 4chan's abandonment of Yotsuba, PAF decided to build Tomoko, leading to the top section of the mural being claimed. A diplomatic issue between PAF and Brochoc would lead to several invasions done by PAF, leading to Brochoc ultimately deciding to leave the area.
Diplomatic issues
As PAF started becoming more organized and bigger, so did they hit into several diplomacy issues. Taylor Swift, suuN, Balloons Tower Defense 6, Czech Republic, and several other K-pop groups all took territory that PAF claimed, which led to several invasion attempts. PAF would attempt to invade into Czechia's Lion, before giving up and moving Haruhi Suzumiya to the right. After finding out that the K-pop mural was to mourn a recently deceased member, PAF decided to help them in relocating to another place on the canvas. Several invasion attempts were done on suuN's mural, however all of them backfired, leading to PAF deciding to move Stu rightwards as well. PAF attempted to help relocate BTD6, however, an incident between the Void would render their attempts fruitless, which led to PAF deciding to invade BTD6. Oshi No Ko would also expand into PAF territory, leading to PAF moving their logo south, right next to Stu.
After nearly six days of holding onto the territory, PAF would successfully make it onto the final canvas, marking the plan a success.
Post r/place 2023
Ragna Crimson would join PAF as it's 11th and currently newest member. During April 2024, PAF officially joined P3ACE as an recognized community. During June 2024, with a situation regarding osu!, PAF joined SWIFT as an agreement to protect SWIFT's northern border.
