| The Dutch flag represented the Dutch people on the canvas. At the start of each edition of r/Place, the flag manifested on top of the canvas. It acted as a backdrop for Dutch related artwork. | The red-white-blue flag with an orange pennant was flown when The Netherlands regained its independence and the Prince of Orange returned from exile. But some where convinced another flag design, with orange instead of red, was the true flag that represented the country. To end the discussion, a royal decree in 1937 established the colors of the Dutch flag:
