What is 86: Eighty Six
86: Eighty Six is a light novel written by Asato Asato, with the character design made by Shirabi and the mechanical design by I-IV, the production of the light novel started in 2017 and is still ongoing today. The light novel won the Grand Prize at the 23rd "Dengeki Novel Prize" award in 2016.1 It also ranked second in 2018 in Takarajimasha's annual light novel guide book "Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!" in the bunkobon category,2 it ranked fifth in 2019.3
In 2018 this got adapted in to a manga made by Yoshihara Motoki which is also still ongoing (with weekly releases).
In 2021 this got adapted in to an anime by the studio A-1 Pictures, the anime exist out of 1 season with 2 cours, season 1 of the anime finished airing in March 2022 with a total of 23 episodes and it reaching the top 50 in all time rating on both MyAnimeList and AniList.

The 86: Eighty Six r/Place 2022 team
The 86: Eighty Six r/Place 2022 team (which existed out of people from the official subreddit and the official Discord) managed to make 3 "art pieces" on the canvas. The exact size of the 86: Eighty Six r/Place 2022 team is unknown but estimations are somewhere between 50 and 150 people.
It all started with the Reddit user u/Elevatorisbest (who also goes by u/Orleniscool) who made a post in the r/EightySix subreddit a couple days before the start of r/Place 2022 about the fact that all the people in the subreddit should unite and try to make 86: Eighty Six a part of it.4
A couple hours after the start u/TsuyoshiHaruka made a post in the r/EightySix subreddit about the fact that he added "86" on to the canvas.5 Quickly Discord users made a thread to discuss the plans for the "art", and that thread became the base for the final result we can see now.

Art 1 depicts the series title, 4 characters/robots from the series (Left to right: Fido, Shin's Reginleif, Lena, Shin) and the Japanese characters (忘れません) which are a famous line from the series, meaning 'We won't forget.'
