The Royal Palace of Amsterdam, known in The Netherlands as ''Paleis op de Dam'' (English: Palace on the Dam Square) and ''Stadhuis op de Dam'' (English: City Hall on the Dam), is a palace at the disposal of the Dutch monarch and used for entertaining and official functions during state visits and other official receptions, such as New Year receptions. The palace was built in Dutch Baroque style as a city hall from 1648 to 1665, and was designed by Jacob van Campen.
