OMORI is an indie role-playing game with psychological horror elements developed by OMOCAT LLC, a team of developers led by graphic designer OMOCAT. Originally conceived by OMOCAT as a short webcomic about a young hikikiomori boy, she would eventually announce a Kickstarter for the game in 2014. Built in RPG Maker and inspired by games such as the MOTHER series and Yume Nikki, the game underwent development for six years before being released on December 25, 2020, to critical acclaim from both critics and fans. OMORI takes place in two worlds: Faraway Town, a small town where players control a young reclusive boy named Sunny, and Headspace, a dream world where players control his counterpart Omori. Despite its often colorful exterior, the game features a number of disturbing imagery and themes as it explores the psyche of its protagonist.

Since its release, the game has built up a considerable and dedicated fanbase. The subreddit r/OMORI would garner over 75,000 members by the time of 2022, leading to the addition of a number of elements from OMORI being featured on the campus during the event. These efforts would be greatly aided by the large OMORI Discord server made by fans of the game. r/OMORI was also a founding member of the Indie Alliance, an alliance dedicated to supporting various indie video games on r/place, alongside r/CelesteGame.

History
The First Day
OMORI had an extremely early presence on the canvas after an early rally to create a game accurate sprite of Omori toward the then-far right of the canvas. This attempt was successful and gave OMORI very early footing that would be used to expand far more later on. As the early canvas stabilized and borders became more obvious, sprites based on mysterious entity Something, Mari's cat Mewo, and Kel's pet rock Hector would all be added near Omori. The light bulb from White Space would also be added above the trio along with text crediting r/OMORI. While not technically a part of OMORI, r/PictureGame would end up building art to the left of Omori that would remain in the section even through various expansions later on. Both would also be joined by a logo based off Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition, a Roblox game based off the popular Warriors series of books.

After around eight hours had passed, a sprite based off Basil as he appears in Headspace would end up suddenly being created around the top of the canvas, to the left of sprites of Niko from OneShot and Lea from CrossCode. This sprite would end up being protected by the two and managed to stay surprisingly safe throughout the course of the event.

The First Expansion
Around the end of the first day, the r/place canvas would end up expanding to the right, doubling the amount of available pixels and space. This ended up being highly in OMORI's favor, as the expansion occurred past their right border. This was taken advantage of immediately, greatly expanding the available space taken by the game's primary section. With this new territory available, several new projects were constructed. The first of these was a more detailed logo for OMORI, followed by sprites of deuteragonist Kel and an individual Sprout Mole. After all of these had been made, there was a push made against the German flag that had quickly expanded from the right. This was followed by an attempt to create a sprite of Omori's sister Mari from Headspace, but Germany soon led an attack to reclaim territory. After several minutes were spent fighting over the territory, there was eventually a truce made between OMORI, Germany, and Celeste to the south. After this transpired, the sprite of Mari was completed alongside one of Kel's older brother Hero.

Several related developments occurred alongside this. The most notable was the addition of Brad Armstrong from Lisa the Painful RPG, another indie title made in RPG Maker. He would end up taking the place of the Kel sprite featured in White Space and remain for the rest of the event. r/fuckcars, the neighbor to the north of White Space, would end up building a road that would encompass the right border of White Space. Outside of the main territory, another sprite of Kel had also been made further right early into the expansion, near new art by allies such as Warrior Cats and (later) Germany. This spot would remain largely ignored by attacks.

Around 38 hours into the event, large streamer xQc would begin the first of his infamous attack on r/place. While initially targeting further to the left, he would soon lead a charge right near OMORI. This ended up causing the first casualty of r/PictureGame, but r/OMORI ended up leading a very strong defense to ward off the attackers. Unfortunately, the attack was soon redirected to both Scotland and Celeste to the south, causing major damage. Once the attack had ended, OMORI aided their neighbors in repairs.

Several hours later, xQc would lead a second attack, this time targeting purple art. This made Mari and Hero ideal targets, causing a second and more direct attack on OMORI. This one was far more effective, leading to the two being erased along with the Red Hand and minor damage to other parts of White Space. Once this attack was fended off, a conscious decision was made to redesign Mari and Hero after their real world counterparts in order to counteract against any potential color targeting in the future. The two were eventually finished and would remain mostly intact for the remainder of the event, holding hands with one another. Following this, they were soon joined by miniature sprites based off other main characters Aubrey and Kel to the right of them, stacked on top of one another. A miniature Basil was originally planned to be featured as well to complete the main cast, but was eventually declined due to tight space.

Title Screen and other later additions
Shortly into the third day, the canvas expanded a second and final time, once again doubling the entire canvas. This later expansion was far more predictable after the first, thus leading to many factions quickly working to plot out territory. r/OMORI was among these, managing to claim a decent chunk of space. The initial idea was to have it include a blue sky with clouds along with a full recreation of OMORI<nowiki/>'s logo, in reference to one of the game's title screens. This was quickly worked on once the borders were complete, with a lot of care being put into making the clouds mostly accurate. There would be yet another attack by xQc during this process, this time pushing right through the middle of this territory. This led to minor damage, but was quickly fended off and repaired as xQc's attention went elsewhere. This would mark the final major attack against OMORI.

Several ideas were considered as to what would go into the space after the background and logo were completed, including various characters from OMORI being added or even small additions from other indie communities. In the end, it was settled that a large sprite of Sunny would be recreated under the logo. Later on, it was joined by OMOCAT's logo to the right and composer bo en's logo to the left. Worth noting is that bo en asked about his logo earlier in the event, which led to many fans being motivated to include it in some capacity.

Outside of this large expansion, there were a few more small projects made before the event came to the end. One of these was an icon as part of the taskbar on the bottom left of the entire canvas to represent the game. Two additional characters were added to White Space towards the end: the whale Humphrey above Omori and the strange being Omoli on the far right instead of the Sprout Mole. Another of these revolved replacing Kel's sprite to the right of White Space with one of Aubrey. The final project was to move Kel to a new location to compensate, although it was never completely finished due to the arrival of the whiteout. OMORI's contributions would survive for a decent amount of time before fading away along with the rest of the canvas.

Artwork
White Space
White Space
This was the primary area based on OMORI, ending up right above the very center of the canvas. The name comes from White Space, the first area explored in the game where Omori often spends his time. It originally began as just a sprite of Sunny, later being joined by Something, Mewo, and Hector. After the first expansion, this area would be over doubled in size. Aside from the aforementioned, it would also end up including a full logo, alongside sprites of Mari, Hero, Aubrey, Kel (all based off their real world counterparts), Humphrey, Omoli, and Brad Armstrong from fellow indie role-playing game Lisa the Painful RPG. Full sprites based off Mari and Hero in Headspace, a regular Sprout Mole, Kel, and a Red Hand were all added at different intervals before later being removed and replaced. On the far left of the section is art created by r/PictureGame and a giant logo based on Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition. Both of these would be accepted and protected by r/OMORI throughout the course of the event.

Title Screen
OMORI Title Screen
After the final expansion, r/OMORI made a deliberate effort to claim a piece of territory on the new bottom right quadrant. This was successful, and after some brainstorming it ended up becoming a recreation of one of the title screens in OMORI. It includes Sunny in the center, under the logo for the game. Later on, the logos of creator OMOCAT and composer bo en were added.

Basil
A head sprite of Sunny's best friend Basil as he appears in Headspace was surprisingly built toward the northwest of the canvas (or the northeast of the initial quadrant), being built alongside sprites of Niko from OneShot and Lea from CrossCode. These two would help to protect the sprite for the remainder of the event. A funny occurrence kept happening from confusion over making Basil's flower crown accurate to the game, especially the leftmost pixel.

Kel / Aubrey
In the middle of Day 2, a full sprite of Kel as he appears in the Faraway Town portion of OMORI was built in the new space granted from the first expansion near allies Germany and Warrior Cats, a little to the right of White Space. It remained largely unaffected until the final day, when it was replaced with a sprite of Aubrey, also based off her Faraway Town appearance. This was followed by plans to make a new Kel sprite elsewhere on the canvas. This entire location was very surprisingly unaffected by larger entities like xQc or The Void, despite not being far off from several volatile targets.

Second Kel
After the new sprite of Aubrey was built, there was another attempt at building Kel on the German flag towards the top of the bottom left quadrant. This attempt was never completely finished due to the surprise occurrence of the whiteout, although it was featured as part of the Final Clean version of the canvas.

Taskbar Icon
Towards the end of the final day, r/OMORI and the OMORI Discord would push to include an icon in the Windows Taskbar made by r/PlaceStart. It is based on the black light bulb featured in White Space. Worth noting is that this does differ from the official desktop icon for OMORI, which is simply of Omori's default idle sprite.

Sprout Mole
A giant Sprout Mole was built on top of a tree within Germany's flag as a sign of friendship between them and OMORI after the latter helped to aid in attacks during the late night for Germany. It was built shortly before the second expansion and would remain mostly intact afterwards.

Touhou Project (東方Project), often shortened to just Touhou (東方), is a series of bullet hell shoot 'em ups developed by Japanese developer ZUN. Originally conceived in 1995 and first released in very limited capacity in 1997, the series would end up garnering a massive fanbase, particularly after the release of the soft reboot and first Windows release Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. The series takes place primarily in Gensokyo, a land closed off from the rest of Japan where mythological beings from various cultures, usually in the form of numerous different youkai, gather due to its far more traditional culture compared to the Outside World. The series primarily follow the shrine maiden Reimu Hakurei as she resolves to solve various "incidents" through danmaku battles. Despite this, every game since the third has had multiple playable characters, almost always including Reimu's friend and rival Marisa Kirisame. While ZUN has continued to develop new official media for the series since its debut, Touhou is said to be driven by its massive amount of doujin content from fans. This includes a wide range of fangames, musical arrangements, artwork, print works, memes, and even several fanmade anime series. Some have claimed that "Touhou is forever" due to this seemingly endless slew of fanworks. While much of the series' popularity is situated around ZUN's home country of Japan, there is a significant cult following among international fans.

The r/touhou subreddit is fairly popular, having over 100,000 members at the time that 2022 took place. This led the series to have significant presence in both the 2017 and 2022 versions of r/place. 2017 featured a fairly huge section labelled as "r/Touhou Hijack" displaying sprites of various characters from the series. Touhou's presence would only grow further in 2022, with various pieces of art being included across the campus.

The characters included in 2017's art were Reimu, Marisa, Cirno, and Remilia Scarlet. All minus Remilia returned in 2022, alongside many others at various intervals: Alice Margatroid, Sakuya Izayoi, Flandre Scarlet, Youmu Konpaku, Yuyuko Saigyouji, Yukari Yakumo, Suika Ibuki, Nitori Kawashiro, Sanae Mochiya, Utsuho Reiuji, Koishi Komeiji, and Shinmyoumaru Sukuna.

Small Cirno
Cirno is an ice fairy who first appears as the Stage 2 boss in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. While initially seen as nothing more than an obstacle in this game, she would grow to become one of the most renowned and popular characters in the entire series. She is presented as being childish and unwise, which isn't uncommon for her species. A very common joke around her stems from a joke by ZUN in the manual for Phantasmagoria of Flower View, where one part simply labels her as "⑨.baka" (baka being Japanese for "idiot"). Despite being a fairy, who are often treated as the weakest youkai, she often claims to be "the strongest". Cirno would go on to make a fair amount of appearances in later installments, including playable appearances in Phantasmagoria of Flower View, Hisoutensoku, Hidden Star in Four Seasons, and her own starring game Fairy Wars. She has been in numerous fan works even by Touhou standards, with her most popular role being in the IOSYS music video "Cirno's Perfect Math Class", which plays off her perceived stupidity. Cirno's popularity did wane some in the early 2010s, but found new life toward the end of the decade, particularly around the popular Fumo line of Touhou plushes.

The art featured on r/place was created by pxls.space right under the huge OSU logo. It was protected by r/touhou and the Touhou r/place server for most of the event. Her skin was temporarily changed to give her a tan around the 46 hour mark, in reference to her appearance in Hidden Star in Four Seasons. She was destroyed a couple times during the event, but was able to be either repaired move without much trouble due to her small stature. The most notable of these moves was to make space for a larger sprite of Alpha-chan from Animdustry, leading her to be located above her head for the remainder of time until the whiteout.

Alice
Alice Margatroid is a full magician youkai who originally debuted as the 3rd Stage boss in the last official PC-98 Touhou game, Mystic Square, also appearing as a harder boss at the end of that game's Extra Stage. She has the ability to control and manipulate dolls, which she makes use of in combat. The vast majority of PC-98 era content has been ignored by ZUN since the release of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil (the start of the "Windows era" of Touhou), but Alice is one of the few characters to have directly appeared during the new era alongside Reimu, Marisa, and Yuuka Kazami. She made her redebut once again as a 3rd Stage boss in Perfect Cherry Blossom and has made some other official appearances since then. Outside of official media, she is a fairly popular character, often being paired with the human magician Marisa. This has been emphasized by her role in various fanworks, including as a playable character in Super Marisa Land and in the popular IOSYS music video "Marisa Stole the Precious Thing".

This art was among the first to appear representing the Touhou series, being placed on Romania's flag. This was done due to some perceiving her to have Romanian origins, with her belt colors even being changed to reflect this relationship. The sprite was unfortunately destroyed twice throughout the event by a Polish streamer attacking the flag. She was repaired after the first attempt, but never recovered after the second. Thus, she was unable to survive until the moments leading up to the whiteout.

Marisad
Koishi
Koishi Komeiji is a satori who closed her third eye due to the hatred she felt stemming from a satori's natural ability to read minds. This had dire side effects, however, most notably the loss of her conscious mind. This caused all her actions to be taken subconsciously and makes it so that people will usually forget her immediately after an encounter. Koishi was designed to compliment and contrast her sister, Satori Komeiji, with the two's color schemes being mostly inverted from one another. Initially introduced as the Extra Stage boss in Subterranean Animism, she would eventually grow to massive popularity in the early 2010s, particularly after her playable appearance in the official fighting game Hopeless Masquerade by Twilight Frontier. Many were attracted by her childlike and carefree personality, with many fans interpreting her as insane and unpredictable. This would be reflected in various fanworks both in positive and negative manners, most infamously in the crudely drawn psychological horror series of videos known as "Koishi Komeiji's Heart-Throbbing Adventure".

The art featured in this section is based on a fairly popular GIF of Koishi in chibi form bouncing. It was added by Twitch streamer tevin_vr, a fan of the character. It faced a couple of threats throughout the event, but managed to survive both. The first was one of xQc's attacks, which she managed to miraculously take little damage from despite massive damage to nearby art. The second was when the art bordering to the right, Computer Science House, made an attempt to expand further to the left. This was met with a lot of retaliation, with them eventually giving in and letting the art stay mostly intact until the whiteout.

Scarlet Marisa
Touhou LostWord
Touhou LostWord is a gacha mobile game released in Japan in 2020 and globally in 2021. It features various alternate worlds in its story. One of these hosts a version of Marisa Kirisame where she became dangerously powerful after losing her version of Reimu and subsequently having her name forgotten. She was later added as an Ultra Festival unit known as Marisa Kirisame (Witch of Scarlet Dreams), whom is depicted here. Above her is a Power item, a common item collected in Touhou games used to power up characters.

Embodiment of Scarlet Devil Icon
This was a recreation of the desktop icon for Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, one of the most popular and influential games in the series. The icon joined various others at the bottom of the canvas in the r/placestart taskbar. It features a picture of Marisa Kirisame, who would be used for this role in all whole numbered future Touhou games (the games with traditional bullet hell gameplay).

OMORI is an indie role-playing game with psychological horror elements developed by OMOCAT LLC, a team of developers led by graphic designer OMOCAT. Originally conceived as a short webcomic about a young hikikiomori boy by OMOCAT, she would soon announce a Kickstarter for the game in 2014.

These efforts would be greatly aided by the large OMORI Discord server made by fans of the game. r/omori was also a founding member of the Indie Alliance, an alliance dedicated to supporting various indie video games on r/place, alongside r/celeste.

The lightbulb from White Space would also be added above the trio along with text crediting r/omori. While not technically a part of OMORI, r/PictureGame would end up building art to the left of Omori that would remain even throughout various expansions later on.

The most notable was the addition of Brad Armstrong from Lisa the Painful RPG, another indie RPG made in RPG Maker.

This unfortunately made Mari and Hero ideal targets, causing a second and more direct attack on OMORI. This one was far more effective, leading to the two being erased along with the Red Hand and minor damage to other parts of White Space. Once this attack was fended off, a conscious decision was made to redesign Mari and Hero after their real world counterparts in order to counteract against any potential color targeting in the future. The two were eventually finished and would remain mostly intact for the remainder of the event.

The initial idea was to have it include a blue sky with clouds along with a full recreation of OMORI's logo, in reference to one of the game's title screens.

It originally began as just a sprite of Sunny, later being joined by Something and the cat Mewo.

A funny occurrence kept happening over trouble making Basil's flower crown accurate to the game, especially the leftmost sprite.

Kel / Aubrey
In the middle of Day 2, a full sprite of Kel as he appears in the Faraway Town portion of OMORI was built in the new space from the first expansion near ___ and ___.

This attempt was never completely finished due to the surprise occurrence of the Great Whiteout, although it was featured as part of r/thefinalclean.

Taskbar Icon
Towards the end of the final day, r/omori and the Omori Discord would push to include an icon in the taskbar made by r/start.

The most notable was the addition of Brad Armstrong from Lisa the Painful RPG, another indie RPG made in RPG Maker.

The initial idea was to have it include a blue sky with clouds along with a full recreation of OMORI's logo, in reference to one of the game's title screens.

It originally began as just a sprite of Sunny, later being joined by Something and the cat Mewo.

This attempt was never completely finished due to the surprise occurrence of the Great Whiteout, although it was featured as part of r/thefinalclean.

Taskbar Icon
Towards the end of the final day, r/omori and the Omori Discord would push to include an icon in the taskbar made by r/start.

These efforts would be greatly aided by the large OMORI Discord server made by fans of the game. r/omori was also a founding member of the Indie Alliance, an alliance dedicated to supporting various indie video games on r/place, alongside r/celeste.
The lightbulb from White Space would also be added above the trio along with text crediting r/omori. While not technically a part of OMORI, r/PictureGame would end up building art to the left of Omori that would remain even throughout various expansions later on.

Yume Nikki is a Japanese surrealist horror game developed in RPG Maker 2003 by Kikiyama. Initially released with little fanfare in June 2004, the game would soon end up gaining considerable attention over its peculiar nature. The game follows a girl named Madotsuki, with the purpose of the game being to explore her wide range of strange dreams while encountering a variety of Effects that can be used on Mado. Many years after its debut, Yume Nikki has remained a cult classic online. It is often listed as one of the hallmark games made in RPG Maker, predating other popular games created with the tool such as OFF, OneShot, and Omori. It has also inspired a wide range of fangames, including the fanmade sequel Yume 2kki and .flow.

The subreddit for Yume Nikki, r/yumenikki, houses a quiet but dedicated community of fans. They would first come together to add Madotsuki onto the Swedish flag in the first incarnation of r/place in 2017. Later in 2022, there would be several attempts to once again Madotsuki onto the new canvas, with a section eventually being claimed and developed further over the remaining course of the event. This year would have members of the subreddit collaborate with the Indie Alliance, a collaboration between fans of indie games to help add and defend each other on the canvas.

Fans of Yume Nikki came together to create a small sprite of Madotsuki on the Swedish flag. This was met with surprised but very positive reactions from Swedish users, who found her cute despite many not knowing her origins. They would end up creating a similar sprite of Swedish children's book character Pippi Longstocking to accompany her on the flag, with the two holding hands to symbolize the new friendship between r/yumenikki and r/sweden. The two helped to defend each other throughout the remainder of r/place 2017, with both ending up together on the final canvas.

History
Early Attempts
Several attempts to create Madotsuki on the campus occurred on day one. The most successful of these occurred on the east part of the expansive Ukranian flag, with the completed sprite remaining for several hours. It would even have a bunch of white flowers placed around it for a short time, referencing the Sky Garden in Yume Nikki. In the end, a white blob would envelop part that part of the flag, including Mado.

There were other attempts to add Madotsuki onto the campus that didn't last as long. The most notable example was a miniature version of Mado built on the west side of the Ukraine flag rather than the east, later being deleted to make room for new artwork themed specifically around Ukraine. Other attempts included the design on Mado's sweater on the Algerian flag and another attempt at her sprite in the area then inhabited by the Toronto Blue Jays and Spelunky.

Forming the Main Piece
After the canvas first expanded, there would be a new attempt to create Madotsuki around the top left corner of the new quadrant. This attempt was far more successful and would remain her general position for the vast majority of r/place 2022. Additional space right of her was later used to add Urotsuki from Yume 2kki, a well-renowned fanmade sequel to Yume Nikki. She initially suffered from severe bot attacks before later being reclaimed and rebuilt. There was initial confrontation between Yume Nikki and the Detroit Red Wings, but after a short scuffle the two would soon form a close alliance that would remain for the remainder of the event, with Madotsuki and Urotsuki being moved down slightly to accommodate the Red Wings logo. The uneven space to the left of the two girls was then filled by hiragana spelling out the title of the game (ゆめにっき, or "Dream Diary").

After several attacks to the left of Yume Nikki's territory left a part of it unclaimed, the territory was expanded one final time. The hiragana was replaced by a sprite of Sabitsuki, the protagonist of another Yume Nikki fangame called .flow. A section based on the influential first-person shooter series DOOM would end up bordering to the left. A formal alliance was never formed, but the two remained on neutral terms for the remainder of the event. While this was the final major expansion, several small pieces of art would later be added referenced other fangames, particularly following revisions after several notable attacks. All three main sprites would also receive further recolors after the palette of colors was expanded for a final time, matching the originals far closer.

There was a short-lived attempt to recreate the rug from Madotsuki's apartment in Yume Nikki below the section for Omori in the bottom right quadrant after the final canvas expansion, but it didn't gain enough traction to come to fruition. This section was soon abandoned to focus on defending the main artwork. There were also several attempts to add other characters from Yume Nikki on parts of the canvas, including the mysterious entity Uboa, that also never came about.

Notable Attacks
While managing to avoid some of the bigger attacks from the likes of xQc or The Void due to the relatively remote position, there were several large attacks that occurred either near or on top of Yume Nikki. The first of these occurred from the streamer ___, who chose to expand his section twice over the course of the event. The first expansion mostly didn't affect Yume Nikki, but the second attack would lead to a clash between the two that would end with most of Sabitsuki being erased in the conflict. After a strong defense, Yume Nikki would manage to hold on from the attack, with ___'s attention being turned toward the Taiwan independence flag. After the attack subsided, the two allies would work together to repair the damage from the attack, with things seeming to go back to the status quo.

A second attack occurred with around 16 hours left to go in the event, this time by a gigantic rogue Turkish flag that seemed to come from popular TikTokers from Turkey. (r/turkey confirmed several times that this flag was not associated with them.) The attack was hard and had most of Yume Nikki, Taiwan, and DOOM consumed by red pixels. The flag soon received a lot more retaliation, particularly from the nearby Czech Republic flag. After a very hard battle, the attackers were driven off and Yume Nikki was once again repaired with a few more small additions.

The final and most direct attack on the territory occurred later into the final day, when a rogue streamer chose to attack the space simultaneously occupied by Yume Nikki, the Detriot Red Wings, and the Detriot Lions. The attack was first noticed when several white pixels began to suddenly gather on top of the Yume Nikki section, with them soon multiplying to a massive degree. Despite retaliation by Yume Nikki and their allies, the attackers were initially successful in consuming the entire territory. They would soon move on to consume most of the Detroit Red Wings logo and go after part of the Detriot Lions. The Lions would end up holding a strong retaliation against the attackers, with the various factions nearby working together to successfully restore the Lions' section. This was enough for the attackers to begin letting up, with the three factions helping to repair each other once more. After this, the heart marking the alliance between Yume Nikki and the Red Wings was rebuilt alongside a new heart between Yume Nikki and the Lions.

After these attacks, Yume Nikki was able to remain in relative peace up until the Great Whiteout. The section managed to remain for a decent chunk of time, with a number of Yume Nikki fans making jokes about the protagonists' looking similar to a number of Effects in their home games.

Artwork
The main section based off Yume Nikki was formed during Day 2 and would slowly be improved and updated over the course of the event. The final piece features three protagonists from Yume Nikki and what are widely considered its most notable fangames, alongside smaller sprites featuring further references to other fangames.

Protagonists
*Madotsuki (窓付き) is the main protagonist of Yume Nikki. She is a girl with brown hair worn in pigtails who is usually seen donning a pink outside with a checkerboard pattern. In her right hand is a Knife, referencing one of the Effects from her home game.
*Urotsuki (うろつき) is the main protagonist of Yume 2kki, a notable fanmade sequel to Yume Nikki. She has blonde hair and wears a purple and black plaid shirt along with a white skirt.
*Sabitsuki (さびつき) is the main protagonist of .flow, another prominent Yume Nikki fangame. Her hair is white and messy, and she wears a dark gray/lavender turtleneck.

Other References
*Flower: a reference to the yellow flower worn by Chie (ちえ), the protagonist of Lcd Dem. This was the first small addition added, initially being made as a recolor of the white flowers referencing an area in Yume Nikki.
*Zipper: based off the green zipper worn by Fluorette, the protagonist of Answered Prayers. It notably moved locations several times before ending up on the top right.
*Key: references Keys, the counterpart to Effects in Amillusion.
*Eye: located between Sabi and Mado, it represents Collective Unconscious, a collaborative fan project featuring online multiplayer.
*Yellow and Purple Square: references the dual protagonists of Uneven Dream, a fangame made as a collaboration between various developers.

Alliances
r/yumenikki would form several alliances upon settling into its new position. The most notable of these was the Indie Alliance, which was formed to encompass many fans of indie games along with a few notable allies. Members of the dedicated Discord server would help to built new projects and defend each other from notable attacks, including those that would end up occurring against Yume Nikki.

Alongside this, several individual alliances were formed, primarily with nearby neighbors.

Taiwan
Yume Nikki ended up forming a very close alliance with Taiwan, who built the Taiwan independence flag right below the final section used by Yume Nikki. The two would end up becoming very close with one another, helping to defend during later attacks. r/taiwan was also allied with the Indie Alliance after taking notice of their new neighbors and sending diplomats over to the alliance's Discord server.

Detroit Red Wings
The Detriot Red Wings would end up becoming one of the strongest allies with Yume Nikki. The two initially had small fights over the border between where the two both wanted to build, with the bottom of the Red Wings logo overlapping the top of Mado's head. After this confusion was noticed, there was a deliberate effort to gradually move Madotsuki's sprite down in order to give the Red Wings more space. The two groups took notice of each other after this, with them helping to defend against attacks on each other for the remainder of the event. Later on, a heart was formed between the two to signify their friendship. While initially a little more elaborate in design, it evolved into a simple red heart by the end of the event.

The alliance between these two factions would also inspire a lot of positive interactions and even artwork based on the new alliance.

Detriot Lions
After they took over nearby territory when Halo's art was destroyed, the Detriot Lions were mostly on good terms by association with the nearby Red Wings. The final attack on Yume Nikki and the Red Wings ended with the two forming a new alliance signified by the blue heart on the two's border. This heart would also remain mostly intact for the remainder of time until the whiteout.

After these attacks, Yume Nikki was able to remain in relative peace up until the whiteout.

Other Alliances
While not as proactive as the above, an alliance was formed between Yume Nikki and their neighbors to the right, Ireland. A huge flag had been formed next to the new territory, with the two seeking to meet on good terms early on. This would remain the case for the rest of the event.

There was an initial alliance formed with r/Halo when their piece featuring Master Chief and Cortana initially bordered the top left corner of Yume Nikki's territory. They would soon be forced to surrender after back-to-back attacks by a streamer's art and the Detriot Lions left the location unreclaimable, eventually moving to the bottom left quadrant after the final expansion of the canvas.

Alliances
r/yumenikki would form several alliances upon settling into its new position.

Many years after its debut, Yume Nikki has remained a cult classic online since its debut, often being listed as one of the hallmark games made in RPG Maker, predating other popular games created with the tool such as OFF, OneShot, and Omori.
