==Concept==
The idea to create Eren on the [[r/place 2022]] canvas originated from a Reddit post to r/titanfolk by u/throwaway732738, in which they proposed multiple characters and memes that the subreddit could make. The majority of commenters expressed interest in building Eren's distressed face from the final chapter, which had become a meme after it's release one year prior. User u/dismay-snk saw this and created their own post, with an expanded template that included the "No! I don't want that!" speech bubble. Soon after posting, u/dismay-snk linked a 100x100 pixel art they'd created of the panel that would be fit for the canvas.

On April 1st, u/throwaway732738 made a post with the pixel art detailing what r/place was and where Eren would be made. The location was decided to be at coordinates 139, 139, in reference to the manga's final chapter, chapter 139. This post was pinned by moderator u/HK-47, who would also later go on to create the Titanplace Discord server.

==History==
Soon after the canvas opened and efforts began, it became apparent that building downwards would not be possible due to the massive [[Ukraine]] flag beginning to span the canvas. It was quickly decided that the community would build upwards instead, and new plans were arranged as well as a Discord server created to help coordinate efforts. This new plan placed Eren dangerously close to the expanding [[The Void|void]] that had spawned from the Runescape community's "[[Connection lost]]" message, however, the void was nullified before it damaged Titanfolk's artwork.

To assist in efforts, Titanfolk recruited other ''Attack on Titan'' subreddits to help, such as r/ANRime, r/YeagerBomb, and [[r/ShingekiNoKyojin]]. After the basic structure was complete, Titanfolk began utilizing an overlay to help correct disproportionate areas. This helped, but the speech bubble on the original template could not fit where it was supposed to. Later on, Titanfolk began conceptualizing a new area for a speech bubble, and began work on creating it to the left of Eren.

The pink penis that had been appearing and disappearing from [[CS:GO Logo|CS:GO's logo]] made an approach towards Eren and began to enter his mouth. This was quickly fought off by Titanfolk and it's neighboring community [[Wales]], who's flag had also been intruded. This would not be the last time Titanfolk had to fight off a phallic object, as the red and white "candy cane cock" travelling across the left side of the canvas made multiple approaches on Eren, with plans by the Danish community and random users to enter the object into Eren's face. The Danish community responsible for maintaining Denmark's presence on the canvas claimed no responsibility, but instead insisted it was random people extending the penis into other art. Titanfolk fought long and hard through the remaining days of r/place 2022 to fight off, redirect, and ultimately destroy the "candy cock", eventually proving themselves successful after removing the object from Eren's surroundings before [[The Great Whiteout|the Great Whiteout]].

At 51:30, CS:GO streamer [https://www.twitch.tv/ohnepixel ohnepixel] instructed his viewers to begin building a new piece of CS:GO art next to Eren's "No! I don't want that!" speech bubble. He soon expanded his efforts into the speech bubble itself, which Titanfolk and allies defended against. Live communications were quickly established with ohnepixel after he joined the Titanplace server's voice channel to negotiate. It was decided that ohnepixel and his audience would leave alone any works by the ''Attack on Titan'' community, and so they instead targeted the by then defunct [[Genshin Impact Logo|Genshin Impact logo]] to the upper left.<ref>[https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1445164647 👋 MY FIRST CSGO STREAM 👋], ohnepixel. On the final day, Titanfolk began openly utilizing a small amount of bots to help maintain Eren's most contested facial areas. While low in number compared to other communities and initially misconfigured, the bots began to provide a small helping hand in defending Eren against trolls, griefers, and pixel misplacements. It was also on the final day that Titanfolk added their own name to the canvas in small lettering to the right of Eren, taking the space left behind by the "candy cock" after it's removal.

==Final Result==
Eren remained mostly intact for [[The Great Whiteout|the Great Whiteout]], with only portions of his hair being overlapped by neighboring artworks. Despite the constant onslaught on his facial features, Eren's eyes, nose and mouth all mostly maintained their original design.

The plan to make Floch started coming together during a conversation following the user 'juic' proposing at 6:29AM EST, April 2nd in the titanplace discord to make a Floch, to which several users posted different images of Floch to be used as the basis of a pixel art. The user 'A certain touhou fan' recommended to use the black and white manga panel of Floch holding up his index finger, which he claimed would be easier to draw than the anime Floch, as the latter would require multiple shades of brown, which did not exist at the time on r/place. At 7:07AM EST, admin 'Snow Fox' finished and sent into the main titanplace chat a pixel art version of the manga panel 'A certain touhou fan' had posted, with a size of 30x45 pixels.

Around 12:25 EST, the canvas had expanded for the first time, at which point several users recommended to actually begin work on Floch, although many said to maintain and fix Eren before trying anything else. At 1:05PM, 'H-K_47' posted a plan for Floch with a top left corner at 1800,14. At 1:25PM, the Dutch flag on the Northern border crossed in from the West, and quickly covered the entire Northern part of Floch, causing the first attempt to be over less than 30 minutes after beginning.

===Second Attempt===
After the final canvas expansion, Titanfolk, in partnership with Steins;Gate and their neighboring artwork, began work on Floch again at the bottom of the canvas. This piece was created directly above [[PlaceNL]]'s [[The Night Watch]] artwork, meaning it was forced to relocate when PlaceNL began upwards expansion efforts. To ensure a quick and safe relocation, PlaceNL added a template of Floch to their bot network. This, in turn, assisted Titanfolk in defending Floch from attacks by French streamer [https://twitch.tv/BarnaBestPasOuf BarnaBestPasOuf], who wanted popular ''Jujutsu Kaisen'' character Gojo Sakuiaosrhi in his place. During these attacks, Titanplace server members raided BarnaBestPasOuf's Twitch chat and Discord to demonstrate their retaliation against the attack on their artwork. Titanfolk was successful in their defense and BarnaBestPasOuf moved his efforts to another area of the canvas.

Eren's starting coordinates were decided to be 139, 139, in reference the manga chapter the artwork originates from, chapter 139. Soon after the canvas opened, it became apparent that building downwards would not be possible due to the massive [[Ukraine]] flag beginning to span the canvas. It was quickly decided that the community would build upwards instead, and new plans were arranged as well as a Discord server created to help coordinate efforts. This new plan placed Eren dangerously close to the expanding [[The Void|void]] that had spawned from the Runescape community's "[[Connection lost]]" message, however, the void was nullified before it damaged Titanfolk's artwork.

To assist in efforts, Titanfolk recruited other ''Attack on Titan'' subreddits to help, such as r/ANRime, r/YeagerBomb, and [[r/ShingekiNoKyojin]]. After the basic structure was complete, Titanfolk began utilizing an overlay to help correct disproportionate areas. This helped, but the speech bubble on the original template could not fit where it was supposed to. Later on, Titanfolk began conceptualizing a new area for a speech bubble, and began work on creating it to the left of Eren.

The pink penis that had been appearing and disappearing from [[CS:GO Logo|CS:GO's logo]] made an approach towards Eren and began to enter his mouth. This was quickly fought off by Titanfolk and it's neighboring community [[Wales]], who's flag had also been intruded. This would not be the last time Titanfolk had to fight off a phallic object, as the red and white "candy cane cock" travelling across the left side of the canvas made multiple approaches on Eren, with plans by the Danish community and random users to enter the object into Eren's face. The Danish community responsible for maintaining Denmark's presence on the canvas claimed no responsibility, but instead insisted it was random people extending the penis into other art. Titanfolk fought long and hard through the remaining days of r/place 2022 to fight off, redirect, and ultimately destroy the "candy cock", eventually proving themselves successful after removing the object from Eren's surroundings before [[The Great Whiteout|the Great Whiteout]].

At 51:30, CS:GO streamer [https://www.twitch.tv/ohnepixel ohnepixel] instructed his viewers to begin building a new piece of CS:GO art next to Eren's "No! I don't want that!" speech bubble. He soon expanded his efforts into the speech bubble itself, which Titanfolk and allies defended against. Live communications were quickly established with ohnepixel after he joined the Titanplace server's voice channel to negotiate. All artwork was gradually destroyed over the course of an hour, until the canvas was turned completely to white at 83:19. r/place officially ended thereafter.

At the beginning of Day 3, the final expansion of the canvas was announced, along with a statement saying that r/place will end the next day at an unknown time. At the beginning of Day 4, it was announced that r/place will end on that day, with the simple line: ''"Nothing lasts forever"'', directly foreshadowing the whiteout that would occur.

==Progression==
At 82:04, all colors were removed from the palette with the sole exception of the color white. Immediately after the change, white pixels were placed randomly at contested points, much to the confusion of streamers and players alike. Not long after, the true destruction of the whiteout would take hold: at 82:09, the French flag was completely destroyed, and the osu! logo was also completely wiped out at 82:11.

At 82:11, a huge letter F was created, with the letter R soon following at 82:12. Seemingly realizing that French users were trying to spell out the word "France", the letter A that came after was subsequently changed to the letter E, finally spelling the word "Free" at 82:14.

From all four corners, the white void spread out, with a diagonal line across the canvas originating from where the French flag once stood. The word "Doner" was spelled out at 82:22, and a vertical line also jutted out from the First Hand. At 82:32, the letter R was turned into an Among Us crewmate.

In the next minutes, the void has spread far and wide, with the canvas now covered in a thick mist of white. Huge lines jutted out from various spots, and originating from the First Hand was a giant white heart. This white heart expanded quickly in the final minutes of r/place, devouring the entire canvas.

At 83:19, the canvas was completely wiped, returning to the empty white slate at the very beginning.
