Shortly after, u/wusterdam_www (wusterdam) created a Discord server to coordinate Taiwan's efforts on r/place, with u/howardt12345 (ht12345) being the second person to join. AvocadosConstant joined shortly after, establishing a Google Sheets with the proposed design for better coordination.

Taiwan's first flag was established shortly after the beginning of r/place 2022 following a post on r/Taiwan from r/gsdeman<ref name=":0" />.

The "Taiwan independence flag" is a flag made by the World Taiwanese Congress, and is the most common flag used by Taiwan independence supporters. The original design was informally proposed by ht12345 as an attempt to swap the design of the ROC flag with it<ref>https://discord.com/channels/959467908315111444/959529206369366026/959850328185004142</ref> mere minutes before the first canvas expansion. It was established to be the design Taiwan would make in the first canvas expansion shortly after.

After failing to secure a location beside the [[XjPooh]] and [[Brazil]], Taiwan decided to establish the flag to the left of the flag of [[Ireland]] and above the [[Czech]] flag. This led to the establishment of an alliance with [[Ireland]] and strengthening the existing alliance with the [[Czech]].

Throughout r/place, Taiwan was often called upon by its allies for help. Through providing such aid, Taiwan was able to earn the trust of many allies.

The first such instance of this was when the [[Czech]] community reached out for help in their conflict with [[TF2]] and [[Sweden]] on the first day.

== Coordination Techniques Used ==

Taiwan's r/place community decided early on to forego overlays and bots and instead used [http://sheets.google.com/ Google Sheets] as the primary method of design and coordination. Cells on the table were made to be square, and colored in manually. The first row and column of a table were used to show the y and x axis coordinates of a given pixel. Every time a new design was finalized, it was sent in a dedicated announcements channel in the Discord. This method proved to be effective enough that it was used by Taiwan until the very end.

This method was flawed in that it took time for word of the latest plans to get out. This led to miscommunication with members outside of the discord, who remained diligent in defending the existing plans and inadvertently blocking members of the Discord from accomplishing the latest plan.

While some members of the community were known to use bots, it was not officially endorsed by representatives of the community until 2 hours before r/place ended, when Taiwan accepted an invitation to join Hong Kong's bot network.

Ideas for several automation tools, including a Discord bot to automatically generate various types of images given pixel art input<ref>https://discord.com/channels/959467908315111444/961016928992891010/961832641475264522</ref> as well as an online portal to display all necessary information<ref>https://discord.com/channels/959467908315111444/961016928992891010/961841840288563271</ref>, were proposed as suggestions for the next r/place. dbrand is a Toronto-based company producing vinyl wraps for phones and other electronics, in addition to cases. Their skin offerings include robot camo, carbon fiber, leather, and many others.

The dbrand team mostly consisted of members from the Discord, and of those users, most were from a subgroup known as “dipshits”. While the exact size of the userbase that contributed to r/Place 2022, almost all of the dipshits contributed in one way or another.

There were a few different artworks by the dbrand community made throughout r/Place 2022.

Art 1 is the dbrand logo. After securing a spot under r/Nepal in what would become the [[Central Alliance]] area, the dbrand team set a goal of creating and maintaining the dbrand logo.

Art 2 is the dbrand logo with what is known as "dorito" above it. Dorito is a dbrand employee in the Discord, whose username is simply "◬". Due to the reverence surrounding them, the dbrand team created an area for a dorito symbol above the dbrand logo.

Art 3 is a slight redesign of Art 2, featuring slanted corners in cooperation with [[Noita]] and other alliance members. This design was not completed due to a fourth and final design created in cooperation with [[Noita]].

Battle For Dream Island (or BFDI for short) is an elimination-centric object show on Youtube. Created by brothers Michael and Cary Huang and hosted on their channel JacknJellify, BFDI has been running since January of 2010, and has 5 seasons in total. BFDI had two primary plots on r/Place 2022: one at the coordinates 494, 1077 depicting Firey and other characters, and one at 1575, 54 depicting Bubble and Leafy on Yoyleland.

== Firey ==

The final image depicts Firey surrounded by various other characters. In clockwise order from the top:

* Firey, an orange and yellow flame with brown outlining. He is smiling and has his arms curled up.
* Cloudy, a floating cloud.
* X and Four, the hosts of BFB. Originally appeared in "X Finds His Value", X is a yellow mathematical symbol X and Four is a blue four. In the artwork, X is raising his hand, and Four is raising his hand and smiling.
* Five speaker boxes. They take the appearance of a rectangle with a square in the middle. In order from top-to-bottom, left-to-right:
** Flower Speaker Box
** Firey Speaker Box
** The original speaker box, primary host of BFDI season 1. Also referred to as the Announcer.
** Teardrop Speaker Box [confirm?]
** Puffball Speaker Box
* Large text saying "BFDI!" with drop shadow.
* Rocky, a rock.
* Teardrop, a blue teardrop shape.
* Donut, a circle with two eyes. The hole in the donut is actually his mouth.
* Satomi's Symbol - this is the symbol of Satomi, one of the people that work on BFDI. Her symbol is drawn incorrectly in the final image.

== Pre-r/Place ==
After the announcing of r/Place in 2022, members of the BFDI and object show community got together to plan out what they'd do for 2022's r/Place. They decided to draw Firey, one of the original characters of BFDI and winner of Season 1. The design was chosen by vote on the r/BattleForDreamIsland subreddit, and shortly after the official BFDI channel (JacknJellify) released a video titled ''What if BFDI was in r/Place?'' ([https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wutk6otkZCg&feature=youtu.be Link]), which spread the word about BFDI's intentions and also advertised the subreddit and Discord.

=== First Version ===

After r/Place began, Firey went into construction at coordinates (950,178). It was finished quickly, and soon users began building his friend, Leafy, adjacent to him. An hour in, it was made clear that a Ukraine flag would span across the canvas, and BFDI was in the way and was at risk of being covered.

Users decided to have Firey hold the flag of Ukraine on his left hand, and other users decided to construct a blue background behind the two with the end goal of having BFDI be over Ukraine. This was all in vain, however, and Ukraine completely covered up Firey and Leafy by 2 hours and 18 minutes in.

After the destruction of the original, attempts were made to construct Firey in the Green Lattice and slightly below the Ukraine flag. Both attempts were ditched after the Green Lattice and the Austrian flag overtook both attempts. It is to be noted that BFDI was allied with Green Lattice, but BFDI was taken over due to the hivemind, who were unaware of the alliance.

=== Second Version ===

Firey was moved to (622,871) about 4 and a half hours in and it was completed just after 6 hours. Afterward, green grass and a blue sky were added behind Firey, and text was added under Firey that read "BFDI" in blue and green text. 2nd Generation Firey was attacked by a white void at one point, and was eventually overtaken completely by MDM at 53 hours in.

=== Third Version ===
Between the fall of Second Version and the last expansion of the canvas, Firey was absent from the canvas. After the expansion, Firey was moved to (494, 1077), which is also its current position. The third version Firey was similar to the second version Firey in many ways, but key differences include:

* The text changed to ''r/BFDI!!!'' (previously just BFDI!!, then r/BFDI!!)
* An expanded canvas area
* Addition of Four and X at c. 57:30

** Accidentally removed several times during constructions due to people mistaking it as vandalism.

At the end of Hour 62, streamer xQc attacked the Central Alliance area with black void. Firey was nearly completely destroyed, but the community persisted and helped to maintain his position. The attack did not last long, and soon afterwards Firey was being reconstructed.

=== Final Version ===

After xQc's attack, the void helped to provide a blank slate. Fourth generation Firey features a new design for Firey, more flowers and details in the grass (thanks to the expanded colour palette), and the introduction of Cloudy, more speaker boxes, Teardrop, Donut, and Rocky.

Firey was followed faithfully to the original design in the previous three versions. However, this time, Firey's design has been altered slightly, originally having three tufts before changing to the current zig-zag pattern of four.

This final version originally had the text BFDI in small blue text, before being expanded into large white text, then subsequently having a drop shadow applied. BFDI also successfully expanded slightly to the left, and Satomi's symbol was moved from right of the BFDI text to just above Donut. This version survived until the final bleaching.

Kimi ga Shine -Tasūketsu Death Game- (Japanese: キミガシネ -多数決デスゲーム- lit. "You Shall Die -Majority Death Game-" unofficially translated as "Your Turn to Die: Death Game by Majority"[1]) is a Japanese episodic horror adventure game first released on 28 August 2017.[2] The game was developed by Nankidai, a manga artist; and was later adapted into a manga and light novel, which were both released in 2021. An unofficial English translation under the title "Your Turn To Die -Death Game By Majority-" was released in 2019.[3]
Due to the game not being translated to English yet in 2017, it did not have a chance to appear in the original r/place canvas. However, over the years as the game became translated and gained popularity in the west, mainly from visual novel fans. By April 2022, the official subreddit r/yourturntodie subreddit had gained more than 20,000 subscribers.
The your turn to die community has a fair presence in r/place 2022, with up to three different spots, including one that is 40x40 pixels big (which is very large compared to the size of it’s community). Being an indie game, it was also a member group of the indie alliance, though it joined later and was not a founding member.

==Organization==
Most of the coordination was done in the discord server known as “CHIDOUINS UNITED <3”, with some help from the main r/yourturntodie server, as well as the community of the youtuber KGOkev, also known as “Botsun Reviews!”.
For the duration of r/place, members of the community who helped contribute often referred to themselves as “Chidouins” , after the original name of “yourturntodieans” was deemed by many users as sounding terrible. The term “Chidouin” comes from the Last name of the main protagonist, “Sara Chidouin”.
The server was founded by reddit user u/-quakey- (known in discord as Togz), who acted as owner and de jure leader through. She is the one who originally proposed building a picture on r/place. Another leader was u/hytesy, who is the owner of the main r/yourturntodie discord server. She joined after assistance was requested from the server for users to help in r/place, and decided to greatly contribute herself. Another admin of the server was u/CluelessInABox, however the user decided to leave on the 4th of April due to an inability to help any further.
On the final day, the largest youtuber/streamer of the “your turn to die” community by the name of KGOkev decided to come and help with r/place, where he streamed on youtube for several hours in order to help defend and build a fourth character. He helped contribute a significant amount of people to defending artwork, with an estimated 60-100 viewers.
==Artwork==
===Portrait of Sara Chidouin===
The first and main artwork created by the community was a 39x39 portrait of Sara Chidouin from the game. Sara is the high schooler main protagonist of the game, where she is kidnapped and forced to play through a mysterious game where failure can end in death. Her main skill in gameplay is winning arguments using logic and evidence.
Construction began in earnest on the second of April, as the subreddit was busy with a subreddit switch April fools prank during April first with r/DDLC. An official mod announcement was posted on the subreddit to get users to support the project. It was initially envisioned to be put on the bottom left corner of the canvas at (23,930).
After negotiating with neighboring communities for the space, it was initially going well and seemed like having a good chance at being built. However, just as construction was only just starting, the void appeared at the very bottom left of the canvas sometime around 25:56 and began to destroy everything in its path.

The portrait of Sara was destroyed, and construction was halted. The Chidouins planned to wait until the void dissipated to rebuild, however as they were waiting an entirely new canvas emerged on the right. The Chidouins quickly moved to secure a spot at (1838,119) as their new home thanks to a user’s recommendation.
After peaceful negotiations with several neighbors, as well as several wars (including the now infamous “battle of Sara’s tears”), Sara was able to successfully be built at the location. She was able to stay there until the very end of r/place, and undergone some changes in her design along the way, both intentional and not. ultimately the presence and perseverance of the portrait is a massive success for the community and kept morale extremely high for the community for the duration of r/place.

===Portrait of “Sou Hiyori”===

The next artwork created by the community was a smaller 21 x 25 portrait of “Sou Hiyori”. Sou is another character from the game who is a participant in the same death game as Sara. He is infamous as the “troublemaker” of the group, as his actions lead to a lot of difficulties for the player. This trait also makes him a fan favourite among the community so he was naturally suggested to be put on the canvas.
After the second expansion of the canvas, the community quickly began claiming space starting at (447, 1880) as the top right corner. Initially there was a plan to work together with the danganronpa, ace attorney, and doki doki literature club communities to make a collaborative art piece containing the troublemaker character from all 4 franchises. The plan failed, and the community decided to downscale to a simpler picture of sou.
Construction began on the same spot where the collaborative work was original going to be, however, it turns out the location was also coveted by the Winnipeg jets. After making a deal with them, it was agreed that Sou would be moved upwards to avoid each other’s locations. Sou was successfully built and was maintained till the end.

Outside of the main two, there was also a pair of characters built onto the canvas which weren’t initially planned. The first is of Nao Egokoro, which is another character from the game who is a female artist. And the second is Gin Ibushi, yet another character trapped in the same game who is an animal themed elementary schooler.

Nao was never planned by the leader, but a group of users independently made a small square featuring her at 1537,1327. She managed to stay for a while, however she was destroyed when the streamer fatty alien came and took her spot. Gin meanwhile, was being planned by the youtuber KGOkev, and was initially going to be built on top of the “flair wars” logo.
The Flaor wars community was accused of grieving surrounding artworks, causing it’s neighbors to invite the Chidouin’s in to destroy them together. However, after negotiating, they claimed to have never grieved anyone and it was a big misunderstanding. It was agreed to move the gin and leave the logo after peace was reached.
In the end, both nao and gin were put to the right of Sara, with permission from the owners. They remained there until the end.
